What is dry cleaning? Is it actually dry?

When it comes to getting clothes clean, dry cleaning is an alternative to doing laundry at home. Most garments can be dry cleaned, and some should only be dry cleaned. But no, it is not dry. The reason it uses the word “dry” in the name is because the process doesn't use water. Instead of pumping water into a machine and adding concentrated laundry soap (like at home), dry cleaners use a specially formulated, professional-grade dry cleaning fluid in our machines.

What does the process entail?

When you bring in an item of clothing to be dry cleaned, we follow a specific process to clean your garment, remove any stains, and make sure it looks a lot better than if you washed and dried it at home.

Step by Step, How it Works:

We place a unique identifier tag on the item, which is linked back to your account and that day's order, so we always know who a garment belongs to.

We check your pockets for forgotten pens, money, etc. and bag those up to return to you if we find anything. (Yes, we return cash if we find it!)

We check over the item for any obvious stains. If we find stains, they get pretreated. We are expert stain removers, with a variety of specialized treatment formulas for all kinds of stains.

Your item goes into the machine and gets cleaned with gentle agitation using our environmentally-friendly dry cleaning fluid. This fluid is exceptional at removing stains and killing germs and bacteria.

After cleaning, the machine gently spins your garment to extract the fluid. Then the machine runs a light drying cycle to completely dry the item.

Once your garment is dry, we use professional steamers and irons or presses to remove wrinkles and give the item a crisp, pressed, like-new look.

Helpful Tip: If you know you have a stain, please point it out to us when you drop off and tell us what it is. If we know what stained your item we can better decide the best way to treat it, and this gives us the best chance get it out.

Why should I dry clean my clothes?

Clothes that are dry cleaned, even if it’s not *required* for an item, simply look better for longer. They don’t fade, they don’t shrink, they don’t get permanent creases in them, and they don’t pill. If you’re investing in your clothes, you should be investing in their care. If you’re buying cheap clothes, dry cleaning will extend their life, since fast fashion is very damaging to the environment.

Unless an article of clothing specifically says “do not dry clean” on the care tag, it will likely look better and you can keep wearing it for longer if you've it dry cleaned it every time it’s dirty.

How long will it take?

On weekdays, most Max I. Walker locations offer same day dry cleaning. If items are dropped off by 9 a.m. they'll be ready by 5 p.m. Best part? No extra charge for same-day service, and we are the only Omaha dry cleaner to offer a written guarantee stating that if your order is not done by when it’s promised, it’s FREE!

Do the clothes come back with a “smell” after cleaning?

When Max I. Walker dry cleans your clothes, they will not come back with any scent to them. We do not use any products in the cleaning process that have any added fragrance.

Is it safe for me?

Yes, our processes are safe. They pose no risk to water, air, people or animals. We (owners and employees) dry clean most of our own clothes; we would not wear dry cleaned clothes if we didn’t stand by our processes and believe that the products we use are safe.

Does Max I. Walker do eco-friendly dry cleaning?
